My journey : from Exploration to mastery of the dark
My approach to tattooing is the result of a constant search for balance between cultural heritage and anatomical reading.
To forge my current identity, I went through various technical phases which today constitute a basis for work.
Each step of my journey has been a laboratory to refine my vision:
The Rigor of Line and Point: The ornamental composition, mandala and dotwork phases developed my patience and geometric precision. That of traditional Western and blackwork my line and filling work.
The Strength of Color: My passage through traditional and Neo-traditional (Western and Japanese) taught me to structure solid and readable patterns.
The Study of Realism and the Abstract: It is through abstract projects and flat areas of deep blacks that I pushed the study of contrast. Working on the absolute saturation of black allowed me to understand how to create relief and light where there is only shadow, an essential notion for my realistic and surrealist pieces today.
Anatomical Consciousness: My work on Viking culture was a major trigger, leading me to think about how a deep cultural base should fit perfectly with the structure of the body. The new color ink standards put an end to my color work and forced me to focus on black, greywash, and a restricted color palette.
My Current Practice: Black as a Signature
Today I am merging this heritage to focus on complete or large-scale compositions. My work is now structured around three major axes:
Dark Neo-Japanese
A dark reinterpretation of Eastern iconography, where traditional flows meet a modern and saturated aesthetic.
Blackwork Illustrative
Narrative and dreamlike subjects carried by clear contrasts.
Abstract organic
A search for pure movement, where the ink highlights the musculature with a visceral force, inherited from my work on black saturation.
I integrate my notions of realism to bring relief to my pieces, creating works that seem to come to life on the skin thanks to precise shading management.
My greatest fulfillment lies in these large-scale projects which allow me to transform the body into a coherent and powerful work.
