Chronicle 05: Kitsune – Grace and Loyalty
A bridge between the wild and the sacred.
Inspiration, a tribute to the traveling companion
If this mask occupies a special place, it is because it was born from a deep emotion I sculpted it thinking of my dog, who shares my life and has accompanied me for 11 years now. His striking resemblance to a fox and his constant presence guided the lines of this creation. This mask is above all a tribute to this absolute loyalty and the intelligence of kitsune.
Symbolism, Nature, Malice and Elevation
Kitsune is, in essence, the symbol of the bond between man and the earth. Guardian of the harvest and lover of nature, he embodies a free spirit, both protective and mischievous. Unlike my other creations which seek elevation by the moon, the Kitsune draws its strength directly from the ground, roots and misty forests, it does not need any additional symbol. It represents wild life at its purest and most sincere.
The Work of Matter, The duality of finishes
For this model, I wanted to explore two radically different renderings, playing on light and the history of the object:
"Night Radiance" version (Black and Bronze) I worked here on the depth of absolute matte black to bring out the shine of bronze and copper. It is research into the shine of "recent" metal, which highlights the mischief of the look. A modern and sharp rendering.
"Organic Relic" version (Vert-de-gris Patina) In contrast, this finish seeks to imitate erosion. It looks like a statuette forgotten in the middle of the forest, taken back by nature. The nuances of oxidation evoke the passage of time and the unwavering bond between the animal and the earth.
The Final Object, A benevolent presence
The Kitsune is a balancing piece. Less imposing than the Oni, it brings a touch of finesse and mystery. He is a discreet guardian who watches over your environment, reminding us that nature, beneath its mischievous appearance, remains our greatest protector.
