Chronicle 03: Kijin – The Divinity of the Thunder Moon
The Moon: My signature
The moon is a central element of my artistic approach, a symbol that is constantly found in my creations. For me it represents spiritual elevation: this need to extract oneself from raw matter and tumult to tend towards something higher, calmer and more clairvoyant.
On this mask, the moon is not a simple ornament, it is the guide of the piece.
Intention: A mystical presence
For this sculpture, I wanted to create a character that was both serene and imposing. The Kijin is not an aggressive entity, but an observer of celestial forces. With his two pairs of eyes, he embodies a dual vision: that of the real world and that of the invisible energies that surround us. He is the one who sees beyond appearances.
The Symbolism of Design
Every detail has been thought of to balance itself
The Multiple Gaze, The four eyes symbolize absolute clairvoyance, perfect coexistence between the visible and invisible worlds.
The Crescent Moon, placed at the top of the forehead, anchors the mask in a nocturnal and spiritual dimension. It calms the raw power of the horns, it also serves as an evocative central theme, to which each person can see a known symbol.
The ornaments of the face, the fine lines which run through the face recall the trace of lightning, marking the meeting between the energy of the earth and the aspiration towards the sky, they also serve to give a natural makeup to the mask, despite the chosen colors this ornament is still present.
The Work of Matter: The erosion of time
I explored two different visions for this mask, playing on time and depth
"Ancient Relic" version (Vert-de-gris) here, I am looking for the appearance of a sacred object with specific patina work to imitate the ancient bronze exposed to the elements, I really like this shade, it has a rendering to both natural and mystical. The Organic textures that are created thanks to this mixture of pigments and metallic finishes give mineral depth to the resin, transforming the object into a piece steeped in history.
"Dark and Bright" version (Black and Bronze) for this variant, I wanted to test the depth of an intense matte black compared to the shine of recent copper. The contrast is immediate, the total darkness of the face brings out the brilliance of the moon and metallic details. We are no longer in erosion, but in the pure power of a metal that has just been forged.
The Final Object: A guardian of harmony
The Raigetsu no Kijin is a piece of contemplation. It imposes a quiet and protective force in an interior. He is the guardian of balance, the one who reminds us that even in the heart of the storm, there is a path to serenity.
